About me...

I have been working in tax for 20 years, specialising in both tax compliance, tax advisory and estate planning solutions for family businesses, high net worth individuals and trustees based in both the UK and overseas.

Let me be frank, "I enjoy working in tax", but perhaps I should expand on that simple soundbite to make the statement seem a little less weird to the uninitiated.

Tax, fundamentally, is about solving problems, it's looking at things in a different way or from a varied perspective to identify a substantially improved outcome. That's what makes it such an interesting field, and lets be honest everyone's had an interest in tax more that once in their life (even if it's only because you've had to pay some). Tax actually has very little to do with numbers (they're just a way of keeping score), it is more than that, we have one of the oldest tax codes in the world and navigating it's labyrinthine tomes can at times require a torch and a long ball of string! My aim is to always significantly improve someone's chances of getting where they want to be by making sure that what they do now can have the greatest benefit to them when they realise their long term goals (i.e. keep more of what they make).

I hold a BA (Hons) in Accounting and am both a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practioners (STEP) and Fellow of the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT), which for the latter I sat on Council and a number of steering groups for many years. In the past I have also offered my time as a volunteer for the tax charity Tax Help for Older People (TOP) providing free tax surgeries to the elderly on low incomes who could not otherwise obtain tax advice.
